Public Policy Hackathon – Shaping Tomorrow’s Policies Today

The Public Policy Hackathon, a collaborative initiative by the Social Innovation Academy and the US Education Foundation Pakistan (USEFP), poised to stimulate innovative policy solutions among Balochistan’s youth. The Hackathon, first-of-its-kind in Pakistan, took place from December 22-24, 2023 in Quetta, where young university students from both public and private sector universities from across Balochistan participated aiming to tackle critical policy issues through inventive proposals using design thinking methodology.

The hackathon unfolded over three dynamic days, kicking off with an inspiring Opening Ceremony followed by an immersive Design Thinking Workshop. The agenda contained interactive sessions, including networking opportunities, ice-breaking activities, and dedicated brainstorming sessions facilitated by Team SIA, empowering participants to refine their policy propositions.

The hackathon culminated with proposed policy recommendations and presentations from participating teams, garnered from a rigorous ideation process. The winning teams proposing the most innovative policy recommendations were awarded Seed Grants worth PKR 150,000 in recognition of their innovative solutions.

In addition to fostering innovation, the hackathon served as a platform for nurturing collaboration, learning, and recognition. Beyond encouraging groundbreaking policy ideas, the hackathon promoted a vibrant culture of innovation, engagement, and empowerment for the Balochistan’s youth, echoing a commitment to a brighter, more solution-oriented future
